From the Driver’s Seat:

Erik Jones: “Watkins Glen has been a good track for us over the years and we’ve run pretty well there. For a road course, Watkins Glen is fast, sort of a superspeedway for road course racing. It’s pretty much the opposite of Sonoma. I think all of the drivers enjoy it. I enjoy it, it’s an exciting track. You can really hustle the car around the track and the harder you drive the car, the more speed you make which is kind of rare for a road course and for our cars, so that makes for a lot of fun. The last few weeks we’ve really come on strong and the results have shown that each week. We’ll go to Watkins Glen and focus on finishing a few positions better than the last few weeks and hopefully get our first win of the season and lock ourselves in the Playoffs.”

From the Pit Box:

Chris Gayle: “This track has been fairly easy for Erik to pick up and adapt to in his Cup career. We’ve run inside the top 10 every event, and picked up our first top five last year. The added downforce from this year’s aero package has really changed how these cars drive and made some of the passing more difficult at the short tracks. The braking zones will be deeper and the esses will be less on edge compared to 2018. There may even be some drafting effects down the longer straights at Watkins Glen. It’s going to be interesting to get to the track and sort out some of these differences from last year. I feel really good about the direction of our team and our ability to go run well this weekend and pick up a solid finish and even contend for the win. We’re still not as solid in the points position as we’d like to be, but hopefully we can go increase that margin again this weekend, or even lock ourselves in with the win.”
