Phoenix Qualifying Report

March 8, 2019  - Erik Jones and the No. 20 Reser’s Fine Foods Toyota Camry took to another 1.5-mile track, this time in the desert of Phoenix, Arizona at the recently renovated ISM Raceway. During the Friday night qualifying session to set the field for the Sunday Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, Jones made his way through three rounds, grabbing 18th in session one and 12th in qualifying session two, earning a chance at the pole position. The sun was out but the winds were high so the Joe Gibbs Racing team battled a tight-handling condition but improved their speed still by gaining two spots. The No. 20 Reser’s Fine Foods Toyota Camry earned a 10th-place qualifying position, putting Jones in row five to begin the main event. After qualifying Jones commented to the media, “the car is just tight, but it’s an okay starting spot and the best we’ve qualified all year. We’ll just have to work from there and see what happens. I feel good about it and I like the track a lot. We are in a good enough spot where we can pick up some positions on pit road and on the race track and be in contention. It’s gong to be a big part of it all - pit road and getting to the front.”

Tune in Sunday, March 10 at 3:30pm ET on FOX to see all the NASCAR action from Arizona and ISM Raceway.
