Erik Jones Finishes in the 27th-place at the Watkins Glen International

Erik Jones and the No. 43 Clean Harbors Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE finished in the 27th-place in the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) Go Bowling at The Glen at the Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International on Sunday, August 8.

The lineup for the 90-lap event was determined by using NASCAR’s competition-based formula, which takes into account finishing positions from the previous race (weighted 25% owner and 25% driver, 19th-place New Hampshire), the ranking in team owner points (35%, 25th-place) and the fastest lap from the previous race (15%). Jones started the event at the 2.45-mile, seven-turn Watkins Glen International road course from the 22nd-place on Row 11.

At the end of Stage 1 on Lap 20, he was in the 10th-place, earning one bonus point. By the end of Stage 2 on Lap 40, Jones was scored in the 24th-place. On Lap 53 Jones was involved in a single-car incident as the field remained under green-flag conditions. The 25-year-old Byron, Michigan, native was scored as high as the sixth-place at the Watkins Glen International.

“The day started off okay. The No. 43 Clean Harbors Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE was good, and we made our way forward. Then we lost track position and got too far back, spun-out and never caught a caution to get caught back up. Not a solid end, but we proved to have an okay car. We just lost the balance a bit through the middle of the race, and got too free and didn’t really have it where we needed it. We will head to another road course next week. I think we learned some good stuff and got a few things better that will carry over.”
